	A LETTER FROM U.S. SENATOR BERNIE SANDERS In my view, if we are smart and aggressive we have the opportunity to make this a transformational time in America’s political history. By electing progressive members of the U.S. Senate and House we can move our country forward in a radically different direction from where we have been over the last 8 years. That is why I started my Progressive Voters of America PAC and why I am asking for your help today. With your financial and political support we can help create the grass-roots movement that we need in order to reverse years of reactionary policies and, finally, make government begin working for all the people – and not just the wealthy and powerful special interests. Please consider contributing to Progressive Voters of America and working with us politically. It is my strong belief that, if we mobilize effectively, we can not only defeat right-wing candidates across the country but that we can lay the foundation for the implementation of a strong progressive agenda and movement in 2009 and beyond. And that is the effort that I want you to join me in as part of Progressive Voters of America. As Vermont’s U.S. Senator and the only real Independent in Congress, I have introduced and supported legislation that would fundamentally change the direction of our country. But, frankly, it doesn’t matter what I or anyone else introduces or supports unless we have the votes in Congress to pass progressive legislation. Here’s what I want to see happen in 2009 with our new president and Congress: End the disastrous war in Iraq, close down Guantanamo, develop a new approach to Afghanistan and restore our moral position within the international community Pass a national health care program guaranteeing health care for all Rescind the Bush era tax breaks for millionaires and adequately fund the unmet needs of the middle class in terms of education and children’s needs, nutrition, rebuilding our infrastructure and job creation Carefully review the Bush record, hold his administration accountable, and restore the constitutional rights that the Bush Administration undermined. Reverse global warming and create millions of new jobs as we transform our energy system by moving away from foreign oil and fossil fuels and into energy efficiency and sustainable energy. As the only real Independent in the U.S. Congress I intend to play a very active role in our fight for progressive values. I will do this by rallying grassroots support all across the country.
